The future of Health Care Spending
McKinsey & Company published this fascinating report putting forward some of the trends in the health and wellness industry based on different generations inputs and outputs. We recommend a deep dive on their material and we've listed below some of the trends we see developing further in the US and the EU.

Here are some key trends we see shaping the future of healthcare based on our research:
Rise of Telehealth and Home Care: Telemedicine consultations and remote patient monitoring will likely become more widespread, offering convenience and potentially reducing costs. Home-based care for chronic conditions is also expected to grow, promoting faster recovery and reducing hospital readmission rates.
Preventive Care and Wearables: Focus will shift towards preventative measures and early detection of health issues. Wearable technology tracking activity, sleep patterns, and vitals will play a bigger role, allowing for personalized health management and potentially lowering healthcare costs in the long run.
AI-powered Diagnostics and Treatment: Artificial intelligence (AI) will likely revolutionize diagnostics by analyzing medical data for faster and more accurate diagnoses. AI-powered treatment recommendations and personalized medicine approaches are also on the horizon, potentially leading to more targeted and effective treatments.
Value-Based Care: Healthcare systems might shift towards a model that rewards quality and efficiency. This means focusing on delivering better health outcomes at a lower cost, potentially encouraging collaboration between different healthcare providers.
Hybrid Clinic Models: Clinics might evolve to offer a blend of traditional medical services alongside preventative and wellness-focused programs, potentially resembling a gym or a luxury studio. This could attract a wider range of patients and cater to the growing emphasis on overall well-being.
Advanced Diagnostics and Blood Tests: Development of new, non-invasive blood tests and other advanced diagnostic tools could lead to earlier detection of diseases, potentially reducing treatment costs and improving patient outcomes.
It's important to note that these trends are likely to develop at different paces in the EU and US. The EU's focus on universal healthcare might favor preventative care and telehealth solutions, while the US healthcare system might see a faster adoption of AI-powered diagnostics due to its private sector driven approach.

Electrolytes: Powering Your Everyday (and Every Sweat)
Ever heard of electrolytes but fuzzy on what they actually do?
These are mineral superstars that conduct electricity when dissolved in water, playing a vital role in our bodies. Think of them as the silent conductors of your internal orchestra!
They help:
maintain fluid balance
keeping us hydrated and in check with our sodium, potassium & magnesium levels
support muscle and nerve function, ensuring smooth movements and proper nerve signals.
So how can you make sure you're getting enough electrolytes?
The good news is, a balance diet usually does the trick. Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are packed with these minerals. But for athletes or anyone sweating heavily during exercise, increased intake might be necessary. Here's where sports drinks or electrolyte tablets come in, replenishing what's lost through sweat.
For the Everyday Person: Electrolytes are like the unsung heroes of our daily lives. Even moderate activity can lead to some fluid loss, and electrolytes ensure we stay properly hydrated. Feeling fatigued after a long day? Electrolyte imbalance could be a culprit. By incorporating a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet, you're giving your body the natural source of electrolytes it craves.
For the Athlete: If you're someone who pushes your limits during exercise, electrolytes become even more crucial. During intense workouts, sweat loss can be significant, taking electrolytes along with it. This can lead to muscle cramps, fatigue, and hinder your performance. Sports drinks specifically formulated with electrolytes can help replenish what's lost and keep you going strong.
Remember: Moderation is key. A balanced diet is usually enough for most healthy individuals. If you're concerned about electrolyte imbalance, consult a doctor. By understanding the role of electrolytes and making informed choices about your diet and hydration, you can empower your body to perform at its best, every single day.
Electrolyte Sources:
Everyday People: Focus on a balanced diet that includes:
Fruits (bananas, oranges, coconut water)
Vegetables (spinach, potatoes, tomatoes)
Whole grains (brown rice, quinoa)
Athletes: For intense workouts lasting over an hour, consider electrolyte supplements alongside water. Popular brands include:
How Much Electrolytes?
Everyday People: Generally don't need specific amounts. Listen to your body and prioritise water intake.
Athletes: Needs vary depending on sweat rate, exercise intensity, and duration. Consult a doctor or registered dietitian for personalised recommendations. All the brands also already have their recommendations so it’s a good start 🙂
